- Carbon (C): The carbon content in DC53 steel is approximately 1.00% – 1.10%. Carbon is a vital element as it significantly contributes to the hardness of the steel. A proper carbon content ensures that the steel can achieve a high hardness level after heat – treatment, which is beneficial for applications requiring wear – resistance and the ability to maintain a sharp cutting edge.
- Chromium (Cr): The chromium content is around 8.00% – 9.00%. Chromium is a key alloying element that provides excellent hardenability and corrosion – resistance to the steel. The chromium carbides formed during heat – treatment enhance the wear – resistance of the material and also help in maintaining its mechanical properties under different working conditions.
- Molybdenum (Mo): The molybdenum content is usually 2.00% – 2.10%. Molybdenum plays an important role in improving the hardenability and toughness of the steel. It also enhances the resistance to tempering, which means that the steel can maintain its hardness and strength even at elevated temperatures or after repeated heat – treatment processes.
- Vanadium (V): The vanadium content is about 0.20% – 0.30%. Vanadium forms fine carbides during heat – treatment, which refine the microstructure of the steel. These carbides contribute to the improvement of the steel’s wear – resistance and resistance to deformation.
