- Basic Properties
- 2316 steel is a type of stainless tool steel. It belongs to the martensitic – stainless steel category. It has a relatively fine – grained microstructure, which contributes to its good mechanical properties.
- The steel has a high – quality surface finish after proper processing. This is important for applications where the appearance and smoothness of the surface matter, such as in mold – making, where a high – quality surface finish on the mold can lead to better – quality products.
- Manufacturing and Processing
- In terms of its manufacturability, 1.2316 steel can be machined using standard machining techniques such as milling, turning, and drilling. However, due to its relatively high hardness, especially after heat – treatment, appropriate cutting tools and machining parameters need to be selected to ensure efficient and accurate machining.
- It also has good weldability. When welding is required for fabricating larger structures or repairing damaged parts, with proper welding procedures and filler materials, high – quality welds can be achieved. The welded joints can maintain good mechanical properties and corrosion – resistance similar to the base material.
